Favorite Drugstore Lip Products: NYX

Hello beauties!

Today is the grand finale of my favorite drugstore lip products! I adore NYX lip products and narrowed it down to my 2 absolute favorites: the Butter Lipstick line and the Butter Lipgloss line. These babies will cost you $5.99 and $4.99 respectively, not bad if you are a makeup addict enthusiast like me.

My precious...

My precious…

First, I should address how I came to own so many NYX lip products while still claiming to a be but a poor, humble grad student.

I bought the majority of the above collection during NYX’s 40% off sales. They had one at Memorial Day and another during the 4th of July. And I am crossing my fingers they do it again, (Labor Day, I’m looking at you).

I also purchased some when Ulta was doing a buy 1, get 1 half off deal. (That they seem to do like once a month.)

And I got 2 on clearance from Target!

I may have shoved a woman out of the way to get these guys. I'm leaving the clearance sticker on to commemorate.

In fact, if I ever buy a NYX product a full price it feels painful, because I know eventually there will be some sort of discount on it. I just have to be patient.

So now, onto the swatches and the favorites:

NYX Butter Lipstick

I have lipstick repelling lips. Seriously, it’s gone with in an hour of putting it on. But not with the butter lipsticks, particularly the darker, more pigmented colors. I’ve worn Hot Tamale during a Happy Hour and 3 hours (and 2 beers) later, I just needed to touch up a bit. This is a miraculous moment for me.

I also love that these lipsticks are very lightweight, almost balm like. The lighter shades do need a bit of build up (you’ll notice I don’t have many of those because they don’t show up on my zombie lips). However, the darker shades usually only need one swipe. Low maintenance lipstick at its best, it’s easy to forget you’re wearing it.

You'll notice I can't draw a straight line. Could be the reason I struggle with eyeliner.

I really love all of the colors I have. The only shade I’d question buying again would be Candy Buttons, it’s a tad too light for me. And I still want Sweet Tart. (WHEN IS THE NEXT NYX SALE?)

My favorites for work are Pops, a mauve color that is My Lips But Better on me, and Fizzies, a buildable pink. And when I put on my party pants, I usually wear Juju, a red pink, and Hunk, a cool violet.

It was hard to limit myself to 4. Gotta catch them all!

NYX Butter Lip Gloss

NYX Butter Lip Gloss

I really hate lip gloss. I’ve tried my whole life to love it, but my hair gets stuck in it and most glossy colors don’t show up on my lips so I just look like I’ve been eating fried chicken. It’s irritating.

But I love these lip glosses. They last about an hour on me, (truly a feat), and most have great pigmentation. I had bought some Stila lip glazes during their 40% off sale, and I think the NYX Butter Lip Glosses are better.

Though sometimes my hair does get stuck in the lip gloss, (it’s pretty annoying, OK) these are less of a sticky texture than most lip gloss. They are very smooth and lightweight. At times they don’t apply evenly, but it’s easily fixed. They do have a pretty potent, fruity smell, so if that bothers you watch out, but I like it.

I can’t get over the names though. Some are very confusing to me. Why is Sugar Cookie purple? Why is Peaches and Cream a pink color? I am really using my imagination here, NYX!

Again, straight lines and I are enemies.

Although I do love these, I would not buy the lighter colors again. I got Eclair in my Ipsy bag, and it just gives me greasy lips. Apple Strudel and Tiramisu don’t really show up on me either. Just FYI if you also have mauve or darker pigmented lips.

My favorites for work are Angel Food Cake, which is another My Lips But Better shade on me, and Cupcake, which terrified me at first, but actually comes out as a nice pink on me. (Why is Cupcake pink? Is it strawberry? Ugh, mysteries of life).

My favorite colors for my off time are Cherry Pie, a lovely glossy red, and Sugar Cookie, which looks super purple, but pulls a berry color on my lips.

Embrace the odd desert names.

I applaud NYX for creating a great lip product at a cheap price, and I show my gratitude by giving them all my money.

Overall, I spent a lot of time reflecting, meditating, and smearing lip products on my body to pick my favorites, and I think I’ve come up with a pretty good range of drugstore favorites this week. Let me know what your favorites are!

Questions of the Day
-What is your favorite NYX lip product?
-What colors of lipstick do you wear to work? (Because if it’s red, I’m jealous).
-Did I forget a drugstore favorite? (I’ll go buy it and test it out. For science.)

I’ve got my July Favorites, cheap blushes, Happy Hour, and more on the blog next week!

Have a great weekend!

    • Thanks! I love the Butter Lipsticks, especially those darker colors. I’ve basically been wearing Hot Tamale, Juju, and Hunk nonstop these days. Definitely try them out and let me know what you think!

    • Thanks, the butter glosses are such a great product! I definitely recommend signing up for NYX’s emails, they let me know when a 40% sale is coming up. And then I’m on it! 🙂
