In a rush to beat the end of September clock, I have one last subscription to share with you before it becomes October! (I am a
weirdo very strict observer of dates and I have this compulsion to review things during the actual month I received them in, so enjoy!)
Notoriously Morbid’s Vanishing Cabinet is another first time subscription for me on my quest to own all of the indies, and again I was very pleased!
I don’t really consider myself to be notoriously morbid. Maybe notoriously ridiculous or notoriously silly, if anything. But despite the fact that I’m probably not the demographic this theme resonates with, I really enjoyed all of these products! For about $13 a month you get lovely eye shadow, lip products, and maybe even a Tim Curry theme, if you are good!
So check out what I got!
First, we need to discuss the Tim Curry theme:
Yes. End of discussion. Just yes.
Although I am amused because in the little info card it reads, “they say you can judge a man by what film they know Tim Curry from”.
Here are my favorites: Clue, Legend, Muppet Treasure Island and Fern Gully. (Hello, “Toxic Love” is an early 90’s gem.)
So. Judge away!
Anyway, Tim Curry is the bee’s knees, and so were the beautiful eye shadows I got in this bag!
Once Upon a Purple Moon- Apparently this name comes from The Worst Witch, a movie I have never seen, but now will most likely watch this Halloween, along with Ernest Scared Stupid and Hocus Pocus. (I have great taste.) Anyway, this is a lovely bright pink color with a bit of shimmer. Not sure if I can use this as an eyeshadow yet, but it will make a pretty blush.
They All Float- this name comes from It, which I have purposely avoided my entire life, because I am a horror movie weenie, (see above). The color is a shimmery white with pink sparkles, I plan to use it as a brow bone color.
Wadsworth- From Clue, which I still think is a fantastic movie, go watch it. This was my favorite color of the subscription, and I’m really considering buying another from the overstock. This has a copper brown base with a green shift, and I do love me a shift.
Solace of Shadows- I made Mr. Danger watch Legend on one of our first dates because it has unicorns, evil Tim Curry, and Tom Cruise running around in forest garb. We got married anyways. (Or maybe because of? Mr. Danger’s weird, too, you guys.) So this shadow. It’s a pretty taupe brown on me with a gold/orange shimmer.
As a neutrals lover, I was pretty pumped about this round up of shades.
And I got a Helluva Lover Lipgloss! This is a beautiful deep red shade with some berry tones. It bled and feathered some on my lips, (which you can see in my swatch below), but I tried it again with lip liner and had no problems. I think this is a gorgeous color and the formula doesn’t dry my lips out at all. I’m definitely interested in buying more of NM’s lip products after this.
And I also got bonuses!
The AFK Toxic Love sample is really pretty and pigmented, it went on smoothly over primer. I just have to be careful with this kind of purple because it can make me look like I got punched in the face.
The Officer Friendly sample is right up my neutral loving alley. This is a warm brown color with a bit of golden shimmer to it. Apparently the name is from the Walking Dead, but since I’m also a gore weenie who avoids that show, I have no clue.
So as my first Vanishing Cabinet, I thought this was a great collection. I definitely feel like for $13 I got a nice amount of makeup to use, and got pushed out of my comfort zone a bit. (Which is what I really look forward to in these indie subscriptions).
Questions of the Day:
-What is your favorite Tim Curry movie?
-What do you think of the shadows in this subscription? Are you more of a neutrals or colors girls?
-What are you notorious for?
