Colourpop Review: Not A Box of Chocolates

Hey friends!

How’s Cyber Monday treating you? I’m hoping to remain strong through today, but Haus of Gloi is releasing their Yule restock today and that has the possibility to melt my willpower. Must…stick…to…budget….

Speaking of going over budget, I may have treated myself to a “Hey you finished Ch. 4 of your thesis and you only have one chapter left” reward of the Colourpop Holiday Collection, “Not a Box of Chocolates”.

It was only $30 with free shipping, so I guess there could be worse vices?

I’ve written about Colourpop’s eye shadows here and here, so I think we can establish I am a fan. They have a great pigmented, long lasting formula and amazing color selections. When I saw they had released 6 new shades for the holidays in their Not a Box of Chocolates, I was on that!

Check out the new swatches!

Eye of the Day and Beer of the Day: Week 1

Or EOTD and BOTD.

Hey Friends!

I’ve been working on starting up this little Wednesday feature for awhile now and I think I’m finally ready to go live with it.

(Edit: Apparently I was not ready to go live because this published with no pictures in it. Opps, let’s try this again!)

In a quest to feature more beer and more eye shadow, (two of my favorite things), I thought I would try a weekly feature showcasing a delicious beer and an eye look.

I’m not a master of make up, but I’m hoping the EOTD can help those of you who are wondering, “What the heck is she doing with all those powdered pigments?” (Maybe only Mr. Danger is wondering that, but still). Or maybe I can just help you get some inspiration for your own eye look! Or maybe you just like glitter. I’ll be trying to address all these needs.

In my Happy Hour posts, I usually feature beers that are seasonal or have mass appeal so those new to craft beer might find something they like. These BOTD features are going to be beer reviews of just about anything and everything, so you never know what might show up.

So that’s the plan for these weekly posts. I might play with the format a little as time goes on, but let’s go ahead and roll out Week 1!

Happy Hour: 7 Budget Rose Gold Shadows and Dogfish Head Punkin

Hey friends!

This will be publishing a little late because someone had to take a nap.

And that someone is me. (I don’t have kids if that’s what you were thinking.)

It’s been one of those weeks. Not a bad week, just the kind of week where you spill coffee on your curtains, clean dog vomit out of your bed, and spill 32 ounces of water in your nightstand, kind of week. We’ve all been there. I think.

Anyway, my best friend is coming in town tonight so it will be all good in the neighborhood.

For this week’s Happy Hour, I wanted to share 7 of my favorite rose gold eye shadows that are all under $8! These shades range from copperish to pinky champagne, but they are all beautiful and cheap.

I’m also switching things up on you and sharing Mr. Danger’s favorite pumpkin beer! Don’t worry, he has good taste.

So let’s keep Happy Hour going all weekend!

Happy Hour: September Favorites

Hi friends!

As this post publishes, I’m practicing walking down an aisle. (AKA I am being a bridesmaid for a lovely friend/roomie from college.) With all the wedding festivities I’m involved in this weekend, I’m trying something new for my monthly favorites post. (AKA I can not make another video until after my I finish my thesis, because that business is time consuming.)

So today I’m sharing a round up of my favorite’s from this past month, some old and some new.

Let me know what you think!

Innocent+Twisted Alchemy Subscription: September 2014

Hi friends!!

I put 2 exclamation points because I just realized it’s the end of September and I have yet to review two of my subscriptions from the month!!!

(I needed triple exclamations this time, because I am a strict observer of dates, and hello, how did September go by? Not that I’m sad, I secretly have always thought of September as the worst month of the year.)

Anyways, let me tell you a very important fact you should be aware of if you’re considering getting into indie cosmetics:

It’s super addicting.

One minute you’re just curious about this cruelty-free company you got a sample from, and the next you are subscribed to like 3 different indie groups and hiding in bathrooms to place orders for indie flash sales. (Plz don’t judge, thnkz.) It comes on quickly, so hide your wallets before it’s too late.

So I wanted to give you that primer and warning, because today I am going to share one of my newest subscriptions, Innocent+Twisted Alchemy’s Sample Subscription. At about $12 a month, it’s a good deal and you can explore some more indie options! And then you’ll probably want to buy 5698 more things, so you’ve been warned.

Check out what I got!

4 Fall Eye Trends on a Budget

Hey friends!

Last week I shared with you some tips for getting 3 fall trends on a budget. Because we need money to buy all of our pumpkin spice things, not $35 blush.

This week I was inspired by an article from Harper Bazaar about Fall Beauty trends. I liked a lot of the eye trends they mentioned this season, but again I’m but a poor, humble grad student. (Also my workplace does not allow silver space eyes, sorry HB.)

So I’ve translated Harper Bazaar’s fall eye makeup trends into a language we cheap frugal buyers can understand.

Glamour Doll Eyes: September OTM

Hey friends!

I’m writing on a Tuesday!

I’ve just had so many awesome things showing up in my mailbox lately that I had to write some extra posts this week! Also a 10-year old called me a workaholic, so I’m trying to spend more time with hobbies and passions. Judgy 10-year old.

So as I mentioned in this post, I have really been loving Glamour Doll Eyes lately.

I think the prices ($6 for a full jar of loose eye shadow, $2.50 for a sample jar, and $1.25 for a sample baggie), are very reasonable, the shipping is fast, and it’s nice to know I’m supporting a lovely lady, rather than just a big company.

Naturally, when the September Color of the Month, (or OTM, as it’s referred to), subscription opened up, I jumped on it!

Unfortunately, since it’s such an awesome deal, ($8 total per month), everyone else and their mom also jumped on it. (Mom, if you are reading this, and got a 3 month subscription- let’s talk.) Fortunately, I was able to score a one month deal!

Dupe or No Dupe: Urban Decay’s Naked Vs. Wetn’Wild’s Walking on Eggshells

Hello friends!

Sooooo this post was supposed to be for next week and accidentally published yesterday. This is what happens when you have 13 hour work days. (ProTip: I found out L’Oreal’s Infallible Eyeshadow lasts at least 14 hours, which is both impressive and terrifying.) Anyway, I decided I might as well let this post be free, and just write a new one for next week. So without further ado:

Welcome to a new and randomly occurring feature, called Dupe or No Dupe!

In this series, we’re going to breakdown some internet rumors and myths regarding dupes!

On today’s show: Urban Decay’s Naked Palette VS. WetnWild’s Walking on Eggshells!

ColourPop Eye Shadow: Fall Shades

Hey friends!

How are you today? I have class tonight, so I’m dreaming of glittery eye shadows as a light at the end of a long day tunnel. We’re talking the 13 hour kind of long day. (Not going to lie, I might be dreaming of a Shipyard pumpkin beer, too.)

So today I have a quickie post here of my latest ColourPop Shadow haul, including some of their delightful, new fall shades. (If you want to see my thoughts on their original line and concept, look here.)

These are $5 each and cruelty-free, so you know you want to check them out.

Disclaimer: I feel like I’ve talked about this company so much lately, I should mention that I am NOT affiliated or compensated by them in anyway. I bought all of these bad boys with my poor grad school funds, and I’m just a super fan.
