Look what else came in the mail? The Fortune Cookie Soap Box!
I told you, I am having the best mail week ever! (Also I just finished Ch. 4 of my thesis, so there was lotsss of procrastination happening these past few days.)
This is only my second FCS Box, and I was excited to try their Winter scents, as well as try some new products. I was also tickled with their National Lampoon Christmas Vacation themed box. Really, who doesn’t love that movie? It’s a classic. At least in my family.
The FCS Box is $19.99 and quarterly, so it only happens 4 times a year. (This is how I justify keeping it around, because I’m pretty sure my monthly box bill is getting close to my monthly tuition bill. Ha. Just kidding. Tuition always wins…boo.)
Anyway, if you’re considering signing up for the next FCS box, which will be Spring, check out the kind of products you might find below! (And check out my Fall Box review here).
I’m surprised I’m not a member of a Jelly of the Month club with the way I’m obsessed with monthly subscriptions.
I’ve been having a super, amazing mail week. The best ever. And we didn’t even get mail on Tuesday. It was that amazing. Today’s post showed up on Monday, and there was lots of squealing.
So I’ve expressed my love for Hello Waffle in the past. (And the future, if I could just swatch my darn arm!) When I saw that she was considering starting a monthly box, I started stalking Facebook like a panther. A indie obsessed panther with a very sad bank account, but still.
Well, I managed to snag one! (From my phone, stuck in commuter traffic, the first and only time I was happy to be stuck in traffic!) The concept behind the Visage subscription is that you would be able to create an entire look with the products included. The cost is $25, which includes shipping, and I think it’s a great deal, especially since Hello Waffle is shipping from Canada, and I’m on the opposite side of the US.
I did end up cancelling some other subscriptions to budget out for this one (I won’t name names but sounds like smirchbox and smipsy, and I haven’t missed them yet). However, I felt I really got my money’s worth with Visage.
Let me know what you think!
Just in time for Halloween, my Notoriously Morbid Vanishing Cabinet showed up last week! I was already impressed with their September subscription, (which you can check out here), and I just keep getting more pleased with this subscription.
First of all, these eye shadows are amazing and so are the extra lip products that seem to be included in each subscription. Second, there’s a theme each month-and I love me a good theme. Third, it’s $12.90 a month, which is not bad for all the product you get!
There is a wait list at this moment for the subscription, but I would follow Notoriously Morbid on Facebook for more info on any openings.
Anyway, if you’re interested in what comes in one of these little dudes, check out this month’s Walking Dead themed bag!
I’ve been waiting for a chance to use that font.
Taking a little paper writing break here, because I had to share my Rainbow Honey Mystery Bag, (mini size, $12), from this month.
It was very good! It made me re-affirm that this is a subscription I will be keeping around. (Some have been on the chopping block as I start to save up money for Christmas gifts, but RH-you’re safe.)
Also as you guys know, I’ve kinda been in a grad school funk lately, so receiving a great package always lifts my mood. (So does buying lots of makeup-but I’m sticking to my budget!) And this Rainbow Honey delivery made me smile and sniff everything.
Okay, I will stop rambling, and share the goods:
I survived Part I of Wedding Weekend Octoberextravanza 2014. It was a lot of fun! I was a spastic bridesmaid and got to catch up with some old college friends. No one tripped, all brides were married, and I got queso. I consider it a success!
Anyways, I’m back this week with some new posts before I’ll be heading out of town for Wedding Weekend Part II!
Although I’ve been writing posts, I haven’t had much time for interacting on Facebook, Twitter, etc. So just a general shout out and thanks to everyone who has been reading this blog, and welcome to any new followers! Despite everything going on my life, I genuinely love writing these posts and managing this blog, and I’m happy to share it with you!
So that being said, let’s get to the important stuff. I got my October Wantable Accessories Box! As usual, it was $36, and shipped quickly, I got it before Oct. 1!
Check out what I got this month:
As this post publishes, I’m practicing walking down an aisle. (AKA I am being a bridesmaid for a lovely friend/roomie from college.) With all the wedding festivities I’m involved in this weekend, I’m trying something new for my monthly favorites post. (AKA I can not make another video until after my I finish my thesis, because that business is time consuming.)
So today I’m sharing a round up of my favorite’s from this past month, some old and some new.
Let me know what you think!
In a rush to beat the end of September clock, I have one last subscription to share with you before it becomes October! (I am a
weirdo very strict observer of dates and I have this compulsion to review things during the actual month I received them in, so enjoy!)
Notoriously Morbid’s Vanishing Cabinet is another first time subscription for me on my quest to own all of the indies, and again I was very pleased!
I don’t really consider myself to be notoriously morbid. Maybe notoriously ridiculous or notoriously silly, if anything. But despite the fact that I’m probably not the demographic this theme resonates with, I really enjoyed all of these products! For about $13 a month you get lovely eye shadow, lip products, and maybe even a Tim Curry theme, if you are good!
So check out what I got!
I put 2 exclamation points because I just realized it’s the end of September and I have yet to review two of my subscriptions from the month!!!
(I needed triple exclamations this time, because I am a strict observer of dates, and hello, how did September go by? Not that I’m sad, I secretly have always thought of September as the worst month of the year.)
Anyways, let me tell you a very important fact you should be aware of if you’re considering getting into indie cosmetics:
It’s super addicting.
One minute you’re just curious about this cruelty-free company you got a sample from, and the next you are subscribed to like 3 different indie groups and hiding in bathrooms to place orders for indie flash sales. (Plz don’t judge, thnkz.) It comes on quickly, so hide your wallets before it’s too late.
So I wanted to give you that primer and warning, because today I am going to share one of my newest subscriptions, Innocent+Twisted Alchemy’s Sample Subscription. At about $12 a month, it’s a good deal and you can explore some more indie options! And then you’ll probably want to buy 5698 more things, so you’ve been warned.
Check out what I got!
Happy Monday! (I think.)
I hope you had a great weekend. I actually left my house to do things other than work and grad school! (Naturally I used this as an excuse to wear all of the glitter.)
Mr. Danger and I went with some friends to the Oddball Fest Comedy Tour to see Hannibal Buress and Louis C.K. We got lawn tickets for $20 each on Groupon, so it was definitely a fun beer budget night. (Except for the craft beer being served at the festival at $13 a beer. OMGWTFNO.)
Those are not our heads. Just so you know.
Anyway, enough about my adventures. I know you’re really here for the latest blood-thirsty show-down between the two cheapest beauty subscriptions on the block: September 2014 Birchbox Vs. Ipsy Face/off!
I think Birchbox is John Travolta and Ipsy is Nic Cage. Thoughts?
Disclaimer: Neither Birchbox nor Ipsy are affiliated with me or my Face/Off references. All opinions are my own.)
How’s your Monday going? I am happy to report that I am, (crossing my fingers), going to have a somewhat normal week! I might even get to paint my nails and talk to my husband!
This is perfect timing because last week I got my Rainbow Honey Mystery Bag. My nails have been woefully boring due to lack of time, but thankfully Rainbow Honey’s September offerings are very lovely and I will soon have fingernails covered in glitter again!
Rainbow Honey also shared some new products in the mystery bag this month, addressing some of the minor gripes I had last month, so overall I was pretty excited about September’s collection.
Read on to find out what I got this month!
