Hello beauties!
Great news! It’s Thursday afternoon, which means you have one day left to the weekend! I think you need to celebrate. How about enjoying National IPA Day with me?
Not into beer? I’ve got something for you, too. We’re going to look at a collection of the best drugstore orange lip products and how to incorporate this trend into your look!
Welcome to my weekly Happy Hour!
Disclaimer: You better be 21 and up if you are reading the beer portion of this post, and please enjoy your booze and makeup, responsibly.
Makeup Product of the Week
This week I decided to focus on a trend, rather than a singular product. I’ve been obsessed with red-orange and orange lips this summer.
When I first heard about this trend, my first thought was “jaundice!”. I have a lot of yellow tones in my skin, and I was afraid having orange lips would make me look even more like a primary color.
Then I saw Emma Watson rocking it and I was inspired.
Now it’s my favorite summer lip color. Naturally, I didn’t feel like buying MAC’s Neon Orange, but I was up to some drugstore orange lips!

From top to bottom: NYX Butter Lipstick in Hot Tamale, NYX Butter Lipgloss in Peach Cobbler, Revlon Lip Balm Stain in Rendezvous, and Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious.
Are you still weary of orange lips? Never fear, I leveled it for you.
Beginner: Revlon Lip Balm Stain in Rendezvous
Just a hint of color, this balm is pretty sheer.
Intermediate: NYX Butter Lipgloss in Peach Cobbler.
A little more color, but it’s gloss so it’s not a big commitment.
Advanced: NYX Butter Lipstick in Hot Tamale
Your lips are definitely red-orange now. You have fallen down the rabbit hole.
Professional: Revlon Matte Balm in Audacious
This is the most high maintenance of my faves, just because you have to make sure your lips are exfoliated before you use the Matte Balm, or it will settle in line. Also it is straight up orange.
I like to wear my orange-red lips with very neutral eye shadows, and cheek/bronzer shades. When you start to get crazy with the rest of your makeup you run the risk of turning into the Orange Clown.

Wearing Hot Tamale. Why yes, I do spend all my free time in my car, wearing the same outfit. Welcome to grad school.
Beer of the Week: Castaway IPA by Kona Brewing Co.
I was on the hunt for the perfect summer beer when I spied this IPA. Kona Brewing Co. is located in Hawaii. This fact, paired with all the good things I’d heard about this beer, led me to pick it up on a whim in my local grocery store.
I was not disappointed. This IPA is fairly smooth, and not too hoppy. It has citrus notes, with a passion fruit undertone. I found it to be very crisp, clean and drinkable. In fact, this may have disappeared faster than I had planned. With a 6.0% ABV, it was all good in the hood.
This kind of IPA would pair well with a spicy dish, such as Mexican or Thai cuisine. But really it’s so tasty, just drink it with whatever the hell you want.
Again, I’m not a beer doctor, so run as fast as you can to try the Castaway IPA from Kona Brewing Co., and let me know your professional opinion.
Questions of the Day:
1. What are your feelings on orange lipstick?
2. And equally important, what are your feelings on IPA?
3. Do you like to hang out in your backyard with your makeup products?
Love,
Rebs!
1. I was hesitant about the orange too until I tried it. Also I have the Revlon matte balm in the same color and I agree with you about it wholeheartedly. I did a post on orangey colors awhile back too.
2. I don’t know much about beer but your description of this makes me want it!
3. I hang out everywhere with my makeup products.
Hey!
I’ll have to check out your post about orange lips, I feel like it’s my duty to let people know they are not terrifying. I can’t stop wearing them now.
I got into craft beer by pairing it with food, which is why I like to include the pairings in my description. This is a good beginner IPA, not too hoppy!
And I’m sooooo glad I’m not the only one who hangs out with their makeup products, haha!
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
