8 Spring Beauty Trends: On a Budget!

Hey friends!

It’s been so long since I’ve had time to make a post like this, but since I had a week off of grad school, (my wild Spring Break consisted of blogging and sleeping. #PARTYLIFE), I was able to tackle some of the more challenging posts on my to-do list.

So today we venture back to mainstream drugstore makeup for a look at Spring Trends on a Budget!

Want to try out some of the Spring’s biggest trends but don’t want to shell out $36 dollars for blush? I’ve got you covered.

Check it out!

Spring Trends on a Budget

For my Spring Trends inspiration I went with Harper Bazaar’s article on what’s been hot on the runway. You can find more pictures and looks from that article here.

1.) Fine Lines: Similar to fall, Harper’s Bazaar says dramatic eye liner is on trend for spring, from winged to a simple flick. Good luck me. I’ll never accomplish this one.

Budget Pick: Wet N’ Wild Mega Liner, $3

wet n wild liquid eyelinerTo get a dramatic line, I recommend liquid eyeliner, (although I’m terrible at it.) My budget favorite is Wet n’ Wild’s Mega Liner, it’s easy to grip, goes on smoothly, and lasts all day. Not bad for $3.

2.) Flaming Lips: Bright red-oranges and sultry berry colors are in again this Spring. Which means I don’t have to put my Winter berry shades up yet, YESSS.

Budget Pick for Orange-Red: NYX Matte Lipstick in Indie Flick, $6

nyx indie flick

My absolute favorite red orange lipstick. It’s a gorgeous bright orange-red that’s very wearable all most skin shades. The matte finish is non-drying, comfortable, and lasts several hours.

Budget Pick for Berry: Revlon Colorburst Balm Stain in Smitten, $7

I’ve mentioned before that I love the Revlon Balm Stains, but I think Smitten would be specifically perfect for a summer berry lip. It’s not too dark, and the stain it leaves behind is very pretty and sultry.

3.) Brown Eyed Girl- According to HB, brown eye shadow in various shades is the “it” color for eyes this Spring. I always wear brown eye shadow, so I’m a bit sad that I’ve apparently been un-stylish for years now.

Drugstore Pick: Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eye Shadow in Bella Caffe or Bella Cappuccino, $3.99 each.

For drugstore eye shadow, I really like the Milani Gel Powders, they have a great pigmentation and really pop over primer.

4.) Flash of Color: Again, like Fall 2014, pops of color are apparently very in style. Though I may not be advocating you glue leather strips on your face like Dior and Fendi makeup artists did, it’s easy incorporate a little bit of playful color around the eyes.

Budget Pick: Rimmel Scandaleyes Shadow Stick, $4.50 on Ulta.com

I actually like these Shadow Sticks a bit more than NYX’s Jumbo Eyeshadow Pencil. I feel like they go on smoother and crease less than the NYX Pencils. They can also be used as an eye shadow base if you’re not feeling the flash of color trend.

5.) Bare Minimum: Barely there makeup with a natural flush on cheeks and pink-nude lips. I’m not personally a fan of this trend. Glitter Maximum is more my speed.

Budget Pick for Natural Flush: Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush, $7.maybelline dream bouncy blush

This is probably my favorite drugstore cream blush. It’s a decent price, pigmented, smooth and easy to apply. Perfect for warmer weather this Spring.

6.) Purple Haze- Hello, a trend I am all about. Purple shadows from light lavenders to bold orchids were apparently all over the runway. (I say apparently because I am reading an article. The closest I have been to fashion week was when I watched the Devil Wears Prada).

Budget Pick: Wet n’ Wild’s Petal Pusher Palette, $5

I love this drugstore palette, it’s a great price for 8 lovely purples. Though some shades are more pigmented than others, (the browbone colors are pretty light), it’s easy to use this to create an entire look or just accent other looks.

7.) Smokey Eye- Good news, if you always forget to take your eye makeup off like me-the smokey eye is still in!

Since there’s so many different ways to do a smokey eye, (I prefer glitter), I decided to recommend you my favorite tools to achieving one rather than products.

Budget Picks: Real Techniques Starter Kit for Eyes, $18

real techniques eye kitI got this kit from Ulta and it’s worth it alone for the fluffy shadow brush. I use that brush when I want a very specific area blended on my smokey eye. However, I regularly use all the brushes in this kit, so it definitely has value.

Sonia Kashuk Core Tools Pointed Blending Brush, $4

I love this guy for overall blending. It’s big, fluffy, and a decent price.

Essence of Beauty Crease Brush Duo, $4

I got this duo from CVS and to be honest, I’m not sure they even sell it anymore. But if you can find it, I use the small crease brush for smoking out the lower lash line.

8. Bronze Skin- You’ll never believe this trend, but being tan is in!

bronze age

Budget Pick: NYC Sun N’ Bronze Bronzing Powder, $5.

nyc sun and bronze

This is a pretty light bronzer, but I need it that way so my whole face doesn’t turn brown. It can be built up if you need more color, and it also comes in 4 different shades to fit different skin colors. Be warned it has a bit of shimmer, but I’m a fan of that.

Nothing too surprising in the Spring trends here, many seem to be carry overs from Winter or Spring 2014. Hopefully you can find some budget inspiration from them, but I say just wear your makeup in the way that makes you happy.

Questions of the Day:
-What do you think of these trends? Will you try any?
-Do you keep up with trends or go rogue?
-Did I miss any budget alternatives?
